adirondackAdirondack, returning after 4 years. Adirondack is a warm and inviting fragrance reminiscent of a cabin stay in the mountains. Fragrant hard woods, subtle spices, and a mossy bottom make Adirondack a phenomenal scent for a Men’s product line. The old formula got spanked by the 2009/2010 IFRA updates, and it has taken awhile to get this reformulated. This reformulated version is not only IFRA compliant, but also phthalate free, and it intensifies in strength as it cures. I am very happy finally to get this back in the fragrance line up. This soaps up beautifully, actually behaves better in CP than my original formula did.

angelAnge de Mes Rêves (Angel of My Dreams) is glamorous and seductive, a combination of celestial, delicious, and voluptuous notes. Dark and sweet, woody and fresh citrus notes harmonize to create a warm, sensual, and comforting fragrance sensation that is incredibly alluring. Ange de Mes Rêves is an oriental gourmand with its top layers of honey, chocolate and vanilla, drizzled with bergamot, dewberry and sprinkled with patchouli over a sandalwood background. Ange de Mes Rêves is a duplication of the popular Angel perfume created in 1992 by Thierry Mugler and it still seduces us with angelic flavours found deep within our childhood memories, as well as its sensual and passionate notes. Ange de Mes Rêves soaps beautifully in our CP soap formulations with no acceleration, discoloring to a medium golden tan shade.

blackmissionfig2Black Mission Figs – A fresh, crisp, just picked ripe fig fragrance. This Black Mission Fig fragrance is juicy, sweet with a hint of tart, with true fig fragrance. No cream, sugar, or anything else. One of the Southern Soapers forum members submitted a Fig Cake entry in our Decadent Dessert Swap in 2006, and I was smitten by the fig fragrance of her soap. I went on a ‘mission’ to find a fig that had this scent, as it is the only fig I have smelled that really smelled like the fruit I know as figs. When I lived in the Napa Valley, not only do they grow fabulous grapes for their wineries, but they also grow the most succulent Black Mission Figs. This scent is a perfect and unique choice for spa type product lines as well as a fresh fruit fragrance choice.

BayRum2Gentleman’s Bay Rum is a bold and refreshing rendition of the popular vintage aftershave of our grandfather’s era. Bay rum was originally first made in the West Indies, where it was prepared by boiling the leaves of the West Indian Bay (Pimenta racemosa) in white rum. Our Gentleman’s Bay Rum is a true replication of Bay Rum essential oil, also known as Pimenta racemosa, while being rounded out with subtle notes of allspice berries, bay laurel, fresh eucalyptus, & bayberries. Our Gentleman’s Bay Rum is incredible blended with our Tassi Lavender, or Persian Limewood fragrance oils to create your own unique fragrance blends.

ginger-and-limeGinger Lime Zinger is dazzling! Tantalizing ginger with zesty lime that cures up with an almost ‘bubbly’, ginger ale fragrance. Simply wonderful in products. Soaps light tan with no acceleration in our CP soap formulations. Strong, intense fragrance, does not during cure.

sandalwoodroseMaharani Padparadscha II (Sandalwood Rose) is sultry and decadent. An aura of romantic rose evelops a soft, alluring sandalwood base. A sniff in the bottle belies how this cures up in soap… this is a strong fragrance, one that cures up stronger as it ages. It is pretty amazing. My original Maharani Padparadscha is no longer available due to IFRA changes in one of the ingredients, however, I think you will like this just as much, if not better. No acceleration in CP soap formulas, but it does discolor a tan.

persianlimewood2Persian Limewood has a vibrant, engaging character. This lively blend is at once invigorating and refreshing, opening with bursts of crisp Persian Limes, herbal Verbena, and a spicy Coriander. Light nuances of woody Cypress tips lend a resinous sweetness and depth to this fragrance combination that add clarity and balance. Persian Limewoods is gregarious in nature without being too masculine, making it a great unisex scent in your product line.

pinkjasminePink Jasmine Musk is a lovely jasmine and musk floral, made incredibly feminine with ‘pink’ peony floral aspects. Pink Jasmine Musk unfurls its aroma with lovely and exotic jasmine notes completmented with a sexy, soft musk bottom that is completely captivating. Not your usual jasmine, as Pink Jasmine Musk has a very sophisticated balance, and is no blushing beauty. Pink Jasmine Musk is a perfect feminine fragrance for creating a layered product range as it performs superb in cold process soaps, lotion, bath salts, and perfume.

polarexpressPolar Express is an icy blast of coolness, that will clear your sinuses and snap you right out of any morning doldrums. Crisp, clean notes of eucalyptus leaves blended with a tingly peppermint and finished with nuances of cool spruce with a slightly sweet undertone from the peppermint. In the winter I sell this under a limited holiday label as Jack Frost, the rest of the year it is Avalanche!

/
/

PumpkinPiePumpkin Brulee is a creamy pumpkin, a slightly different rendition of a holiday favorite, Pumpkin Pie. Pumpkin Brulee lets the delicious aroma of the whip cream and the pumpkin pie have top rank, with the spices being more subtle in this blend. Rich and creamy smelling, for me this smells like a perfect holiday pumpkin pie minus the crust, which I usually burn anyway!

Teleconference #1 – High Margin Items for Summer Sales

Kelly @ Soapalooza

/
/
/
/This evening we covered how you can use a great deal of what is currently in your soap studio supply cupboard to create quick, high profit, high margin, up sell items for your Summer Markets and/or Booth sales. You can also introduce them to your e-commerce websites with a low investment until you see what your audience is buying. This lets you ‘fail fast’ those items that are slow, and commit to those that fly off the table. You will basically be using your target customer base as your own “Market Focus Studies” group.
/
/
/
/At the bottom of this recap of tonight’s Free Teleconference you will find a list of PDF’s with many formula/recipes for you to use. Most ingredients you will already have on hand. There are also links fpr packaging in small increments, should you need small amounts to test your market with your new products.
/
/
/
/1. We covered how you can take a simple Lip Balm base and transform it into a Solid Perfume, or as the base for a Salve, and lastly a Mustache Wax. These products require a certain amount of wax to function properly.  This formula would not be quite as good in Massage bars, as the waxy feel would not sink into the skin.
/
/
/
/2. We covered Body Bars, Massage Bars, and Lip Gloss. All three of these types of formulations do not use as much wax. Some are firmer (as in Body Bars in the push up tubes), to soft, as in the Lip Gloss formulas. The level of Cocoa Butter is usually what makes these formulas firmer or softer.
/
/
/
/3. We covered Scrubs, Glows, and Polishes. Both Emulsified and Non Emulsified. If you prefer to provide more natural products, the Non Emulsified Scrubs will be a better solution, unless you have no problems with still using preservatives with your natural items. Preservatives are mandatory though with any formula that includes water. The Non Emulsified Scrub is simply oils, Polysorbate 20, and sugar/salt, what we refer to as an Anhydrous formulation, or one without water. A preservative would still be recommended, as wet hands can introduce water to later grow molds, etc. But, if you label the product as “preservative free” you can provide Non Emulsified Scrubs without a preservative. I am also providing you with a fun Chocolate Facial Mask.
/
/
/
/4. Next, we discussed dry powder products. This category includes Bath Bombs, Foaming Milk Bath, Bath Tablets, and even Bath Salts. None of these need preservatives as they are dry. We brainstormed on various packaging ideas.
/
/
/
/5. Liquid Anhydrous products, such as Dry Perfume Oil Spray, Warming Oil, Massage Oil, and Bath Drizzles. Each of these are fun, can be scented in decadent scents, and have many cross marketing audiences. You should have fun with the formulas below on these. Often the Bullet type bottles with disk caps, jars with honey dips, and spray bottles work best.
/
/
/
/6. Last, we have Liquid products that do have water, and must have a preservative. Your hot summer season is really not the best time to start selling lotion that you just learned to make however. This is because microbiology testing of your product is recommended. A laboratory test for AP (aerobic platelet) and YF (yeast fungal) counts will let you know if your preservative is functioning in your manufacturing process and holding up during storage. I highly recommend you do this a few times prior to selling your own lotion, especially if you decide to add fancy actives or proteins to your formula. Water + Food = bacteria, mold, and fungi unless you have a solid manufacturing process and use an appropriate preservative. This Teleconference is not focusing on GMP, Microbiology, or Preservatives, but we can cover those areas in future Teleconferences.
/
/
/
/So, while I am providing you with a basic, simple lotion recipe to learn with, I urge you to practice with it first. Perfect it, and test it on immediate family and friends. Get it tested, and then be ready to add it to your line later this fall when temperatures are lower and less likely to create condensation in your lotion bottles in a Market or Booth environment. That sort of temperature fluctuation can cause problems if the preservative or manufacturing process are compromised. Many preservatives are heat sensitive also.
/
/
/
/So, I hope you enjoyed our short Teleconference. I hope it gave you some terrific ideas to jump-start your summer table offerings and displays. I hope it helps you find a variety of items that you can increase your summer sales without overloading on supplies that you have to order special. Use what you have on hand whenever possible until you know how you feel about packaging and labeling these additional products, as well as customer reception of them. Don’t worry if the formula calls for Shea Butter and all you have is Mango. Make the recipes/formulas your own in the process! You can always email me at kelly @ soapalooza.com for help also!   Link for Audio Recording Here
